Below are plans for 4 different J-Pole type antennas. Three are made from flexible, twin-lead type transmission line and the fourth is made from copper pipe. The J-Pole antenna performs well yet requires no traditional radials hence it is easy to transport and takes up very little room. The designs presented were gleaned from other ARES web sites by Jim, K9CNP. They are presented here for your convenience.
In addition to being a good emergency antenna one of the twin-lead J-Poles also makes a great first "scratch building" project for a new Amateur. It builds quickly and is a useful station accessory since a small, portable 2-Meter radio is often a new Ham's first purchase.
